Shop Front

Driving or walking around downtown Malakoff you may have noticed a brightly painted turquoise building. Mister Sweet Tooth, a new coffee shop on E. Mitchum St. will open the first week in Oct.

“We haven’t finalized our hours yet but most likely Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday will be 11am - 7 or 8pm,” Joe Hessley, Shop Owner said. “Saturday we’re gonna run 9am-9pm and then Sunday will be probably like 11am- 7pm.”

Hessley made plans to open this shop here after purchasing a house on the lake.

“We love the area, and we saw a great need in Malakoff for something like this. There wasn’t a lot of restaurants, coffee shops, or things of that nature,” Hessley said. “We thought it’d be really great to give back to the community and create a really cool environment where people can come and enjoy and experience. That’s part of what we’re trying to design with Mister Sweet Tooth.”

Hessley said the shop will be a student and family friendly environment. Mister Sweet Tooth will have have wifi, a candy wall, music, and a small rentable back room for parties.

“There will also be a lot a food and drink choices including, but not limiting to,coffees, teas, milkshakes, ice cream, chocolate truffles, baked goods, brownies, cupcakes, cookies; all that good kind of stuff,” Hessley said.

Students and teachers alike have expressed interest in Mister Sweet Tooth:

“I like the idea. I would probably leave my home early to go to the coffee shop,” Sherri Thorton, Spanish teacher said.

“I’d probably skip school to go,” Rockland Jackson, junior said.

“Oh yeah, I like coffee,” Alyssa Taylor, senior said.

“I’m excited. I want coffee and I don’t want to go all the way to McDonalds for coffee,” Riley Horton, sophomore said.

Hessley plans provide perks for students.

“Typically in the past we’ve had a 10% discount for students, so certainly we can look at something like that,” Hessley said.

Currently, Mister Sweet Tooth has a single job offer available. Sixteen hours a week, Thursday-Sunday, $9.25 an hour. If you or anyone you know is searching for a job contact the shop through Mistersweettooth@gmail.com.
